Marteria (born December 4, 1982 in Rostock ; real name Marten Laciny ) is a German rapper , also known under the name Marsimoto . His stage name goes back to the first letters of his first name as well as "Materia", the Latin word for substance or matter.

Life

Marten Laciny is the youngest child of a teacher and a seaman. He grew up with a brother eight years older and a sister four years older with his single mother in the Rostock district of Groß Klein . The talented footballer was the captain of all youth teams at FC Hansa Rostock , with which he still maintains close ties today. As a right-back he was a regular for the U-15 , U-16 and U-17 national teams .

When he was discovered by a model scout on a trip to New York in 1999 , he accepted modeling jobs all over the world from there. During his first photo shoot , he worked as a male model for Claudia Schiffer , then for Diesel and Hugo Boss , among others . He gave up his football career in favor of the modeling career in the USA . In 2003 he got out again and went back to Germany to pursue a rap career from then on.

In 2003 he moved to Berlin-Friedrichshain . Here he completed his training as an actor at the Reduta-Berlin drama school . Laciny is the father of a boy (* 2007), to whom both the song Louis on the album For Happiness in the Future and the song Equal to Louis in the album For Happiness in the Future II is dedicated. On February 20, 2015, he married the musician Jadu Freydank .

On March 29, 2015, Marteria was admitted to hospital. Before that, he had played  football at a charity match for  Hansa Rostock and had not had a drink for two hours. There was a threat of acute kidney failure. After the successful  dialysis  , he initially withdrew from the public. He left  Berlin  and moved back to the Baltic coast. According to his own statements, the incident changed his life. Among other things, he gave up the consumption of alcohol and other drugs . Instead, he goes fishing in his spare time. According to a complaint by the animal rights protection organization PETA in the summer of 2017 due to the practice of so-called catching and releasing recorded in a YouTube video , Marteria accepted a fine of € 5,000 for animal cruelty in February 2018 .

Music career

Marteria (2011)

At the age of 16 Marteria had his first release on the album Maximum as a member of the hip-hop group Underdog Cru on the label POsin-music . At the age of 18 he signed his first solo contract with Punchline, a label of SPV . He delivered his debut album there, which was never released due to the bankruptcy of the record company.

In 2002 he went on a European tour with Mark B & Blade (England), Delinquent Habits and Flowmarkt from Hanover as part of Underdog Cru . From 2001 to 2003 he was part of Underdog Cru live at the biggest hip-hop and reggae festival in Europe splash! seen on stage.

His first work, Halloziehnation , which was produced by Dead Rabbit, received praise from the press and was awarded 4½ out of 6 crowns by the trendy magazine Juice . His second album Base Ventura also received this rating. He released these two albums on the Magnum12 label, where he laid the foundation for his career. In late autumn 2007 he signed a contract with the music publisher Nesola . In December 2007 he accompanied Jan Delay under his second stage name Marsimoto in the opening act for the tour. In spring 2008 he signed a label deal with Four Music , where he has been publishing ever since.

In February 2009 he entered the Federal Vision Song Contest 2009 for the federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with his title Born to the King and took twelfth place. In August 2010, the album was released Fortunately, in the future , to the next Yasha , Miss Platnum and Jan Delay also Casper and Peter Fox participated. At the Echo Awards 2011 Marteria performed with the title Nobody (What we do not do) together with Joy Denalane , Max Herre and Klaus Doldinger .

In 2012 Marteria co-wrote various pieces of music on the album Ballast der Republik by the punk rock band Die Toten Hosen . In the same year he started the Purple Clouds project with Yasha and Miss Platnum . On September 14, 2012, an EP was released under this title with five songs together, the title track immediately made it to number 1 in the German charts.

On January 31, 2014, the album Zum Glück in die Zukunft II was released , which reached number 1 in the German album charts and was awarded platinum. Three singles from it were already released in December 2013: Bengal Tiger , Kids (2 fingers on the head) and OMG! At the end of January 2014 Marteria presented photos, videos and stories from a three-week intercontinental trip under the title “World Tour with Marteria” at eight different locations in Germany, which took him together with photographer Paul Ripke from Europe to South America and Alaska to Asia would have. The end of the promo tour took place in the Zeiss large planetarium in Berlin.

At the tenth Bundesvision Song Contest on September 20, 2014 Marteria competed with his home anthem Mein Rostock and reached fourth place. In June 2015 he played an open air concert in front of 20,000 spectators in his hometown of Rostock.

Marteria acted in the German version of the charity song Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid , which celebrated its world premiere on November 21, 2014. In May 2017 he appeared again as a co-author of various pieces of music on the album Laune der Natur by the band Die Toten Hosen.

On May 26, 2017, his seventh solo album Roswell was released , which reached second place in the German album charts. On June 7, 2017, a film closely linked to the album entitled Antimarteria was released.

At the Kosmonaut Festival 2018 Marteria and Casper announced a joint album entitled 1982 , which was released on August 31, 2018. On May 31, 2019, Materia and Casper began their joint tour entitled "Champions Sounds Open Air" at the Expo Plaza in Hanover , during which they performed at various festivals and open air concerts in the summer of 2019.

On September 1, 2018 Marteria performed in front of 32,000 spectators in Rostock's Ostseestadion . In addition to Casper, Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß , Miss Platnum and Feine Sahne Fischfilet were also guests . The concert was the first solo concert by a German rapper that took place in a stadium. Marteria thus fulfilled a "childhood dream". Two days later, Marteria was one of the artists who appeared as part of the #wirsindmehr campaign after xenophobic riots in Chemnitz in front of 65,000 visitors at a free concert against right-wing extremism .

In addition to his stage name Marteria, he is also known under the pseudonym Marsimoto. Marsimoto was created as a homage to the alter ego Quasimoto of the American rapper Madlib . Both stand out because of their pitched voice. Marteria's idea of ​​creating Marsimoto as an alter ego arose from playing around with the effects of a recording tool. Because of the positive feedback he decided to release an album as Marsimoto.

Marteria released his solo albums as Marsimoto, Halloziehnation (2006), To Two Alone (2008), Green Velvet (2012), Ring der Nebelungen (2015) and Verde (2018).
