Maury ( Catalan Maurí ) is a place and a municipality in the south of France with 785 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Orientales department in the Occitania region in the Fenouillèdes countryside .
location
The place Maury is located on a river of the same name at a height of about 160 m above sea level. d. M. in the north-eastern foothills of the Pyrenees and is about 35 km (driving distance) in a north-westerly direction from Perpignan .

Traditionally, the residents lived as self-sufficient food from their (wine) fields and from a little cattle-raising (sheep, goats, chickens). The wines produced in the municipality today are marketed through various appellations ; The naturally sweet aperitif wine Maury (AOC) is known beyond the borders of the region . history
Celts , Romans , Visigoths and Moors left no traces on the municipality. The first reliable mention of the place name Villa de Maurino comes from the end of the 11th century. The Fenouillèdes was formerly part of the Languedoc province , but was integrated into the Pyrénées-Orientales department during the French Revolution .
Attractions
- The St. The parish church of Saint-Brice , consecrated to Brictius von Tours , dates back to the Romanesque period , but was redesigned again and again in the following centuries until it was virtually rebuilt in the 1960s; it also received a modern bell tower . The nave contains a painting ( Judith and Holofernes ) from the 17th and statues from the 18th century.
