history
It is assumed that Meckenlohes in the 11./12. Century was founded. In 1225/76 it was first mentioned in a document as "Meckenloch". The place name is probably derived from goat breeding and the former charcoal burning . "Möcken" says the bleating of goats, "Tan" is ahd. For embers, flame, but also clearing.
In the 16-point report for the Oberamt Roth of 1608, 13 properties are listed for Meckenlohe, 6 of which are the Schwand judges 'office , 1 is the Schwand judges' office and one is the Schwand church, 1 is the Palatinate-Bavarian caste office in Hilpoltstein , and 2 farms are the Reiche Almosen in Nuremberg and 2 courtyards and 1 estate had the St. Klara monastery office as landlord . According to Johann Georg Vetter's descriptions of the upper office in 1732 , there were 16 properties in Meckenlohe, 8 of which were the Schwand judges' office, 7 the imperial city of Nuremberg (State Almosenamt, St. Klara-Klosteramt, Klosteramt Pillenreuth ) and 1 the caste office Hilpoltstein as landlord.
Towards the end of the 18th century there were 15 properties and a community shepherd's house in Meckenlohe. The high court north of the Finsterbach exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach judicial office Schwand , south of the Finsterbach the Brandenburg-Ansbach Oberamt Roth . The judge office Schwand held the village and community rulership. The landlords were the Schwand judges' office (3 whole farms, 3 farms, 1 farm with cones), the Palatinate-Bavarian caste office Hilpoltstein (1 three-quarter farm) and the imperial city of Nuremberg (St. Klara monastery office: 2 full farms, 2 farms; state alms office: 2 full farms, 1 Gütlein). In 1801 there were still 15 properties in the village.
As part of the municipal edict, Meckenlohe was assigned to the Pfaffenhofen tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community Pfaffenhofen, founded in 1811 . The Meckenlohe volunteer fire brigade has existed since 1888 . On July 5, 1925, the place made an application for reorganization to Schwand near Nuremberg . However, this was rejected. On July 1, 1971, the place was incorporated into Roth as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .
Today Meckenlohe is predominantly characterized by agriculture and forestry, but the building fabric is now partly modern. Goat breeding is still in operation, and there are also various smaller farms.
