The Soestmecke nature reserve with a size of 8.3 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest north of Wennemen in the Meschede urban area . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG is the Soestmecke stream with its source area and part of the Gebke stream with forest areas. In the forest there are areas with oak , red beech and alder . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the stream areas and forest with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
