The Schneisenberg nature reserve with a size of 8 hectares is located southeast of Stockhausen in the urban area of Meschede . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan.

The NSG has been part of the FFH area Ruhrtal bei Laer and Schneisenberg (No. DE-4615-301) with a size of 197 hectares since 2004 with the nature reserve Ruhrtal bei Laer .

Area description

The NSG is a mixed deciduous forest with rubble heaps. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
