Obere Gebke nature reserve
The nature reserve Obere Gebke with a size of 9.3 hectares is located in the Arnsberg Forest northeast of Eversberg in the urban area of Meschede . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan.
Area description
The NSG is the source and upper reaches of the Gebkebach (also called Gebke ). Mostly red alder grows by the stream . Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the stream with its species inventory.
As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
