Northern part of the NSG Faules Siepen

The nature reserve Faules Siepen with a size of 5.6 hectares is located south of Wehrstapel in the urban area of Meschede . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG is a deeply cut valley. The upper valley area is covered with red beech . Some of the beech trees are old wood. The lower part of the valley are pastures with hedges. There is a source in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The beech forest and grassland are to be protected in the NSG. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
