The Hamorsbruch nature reserve with a size of 64.9 hectares is located northwest of the Meschede telecommunications tower on the northern boundary between Meschede and the urban area of Warstein . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan. In 1942, 1954 and 1966 the district government of Arnsberg already designated the area as NSG by ordinance with a different definition. The NSG borders directly on the district boundary. In the urban area of Warstein in the Soest district , the Hamorsbruch nature reserve and spring streams are directly adjacent . The NSG has been part of the FFH area Hamorsbruch and Quellbach (No. DE-4515-301) with an area of 464 hectares since 2004 .
Area description
The NSG is a birch moor forest , red beech forest and spruce forest. The bog forest is dominated by the bog birch , which grows on peat bodies up to two meters thick. The herbaceous layer of the bog forests is rich in species. Beech stocks of various ages are located in the southwestern part of the nature reserve.
Protection purpose
The NSG is intended to protect the peat moss-rich birch bog forests and the structurally rich beech forests.
As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
