In the valley of the Lörmecke

The Lörmecketal nature reserve with a size of 3 hectares is located northeast of Eversberg in the urban area of Meschede . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan. In the municipality of Bestwig , the Lörmecke is designated as a nature reserve Lörmeckal system . In the Soest district, the rest of the river is in the Lörmecketal nature reserve (Soest district) . The entire course of the river from the source to the confluence is also designated as an FFH area Lörmecketal (DE-4516-301). The Lörmecke tower is located south of the NSG . The northern limit of the NSG is also the city limit to the city of Warstein in the Soest district.

Area description

The NSG is part of the Lörmeckal with the source and stream in the city of Meschede. The headwaters in a quarry forest are overgrown with red alder and bog birch forest. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the spring with its headwaters and the stream with its floodplain with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
