Hockenstein nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hockenstein nature reserve with a size of 7.6 hectares is located southeast of Remblinghausen and one kilometer east of Höringhausen in the Meschede urban area . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan.

Area description

The NSG is an old beech forest with rock groups and a notched valley with seepage springs. Rare animal and plant species are found in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the forest with its species inventory.

As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
