The Erlenbruch nature reserve on the upper Glasmeckesiepen, with a size of 0.5 hectares, is located in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park in the northern urban area of Meschede . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 1994 with the Meschede landscape plan. The area of the nature reserve is also within the much larger FFH area DE-4514-302 Arnsberg Forest , which makes it part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .

Area description

The nature reserve, located in a closed forest area, encompasses a swelling swamp forest area on several nameless sides of the upper Glassmecke . The surrounding nature reserve areas are in large-scale landscape conservation area Meschede . Black alder predominantly grow in the quarry forest . The source areas are particularly valuable for amphibians . Rare animal and plant species can be found in the area.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the alder forest with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation pointed out that the area became a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.

tourism

A forest and hiking trail runs directly on the southern edge of the nature reserve, which accompanies the Glassmecke for several kilometers. From there it is possible to look into the protected area. The nature reserve stretches about 100 m in length north of the path and extends about 50 m up the slope into the forest. As there is a strict route requirement for all nature reserves in the Hochsauerlandkreis and there are no paths in this small area itself, entry is prohibited. A hiking car park on Plackweg is located around 350 m east on Landesstrasse 856 (near the Meschede telecommunications tower ).
