Green Stot nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Grüner Stot with a size of 7.47  hectares is located west of Deifeld in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is also part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (DE-4717-401). The NSG borders the Medebach landscape protection area to the west and the north and south of the Medebach north landscape protection area: Düdinghauser Hochmulde, valley areas and slopes . In the east, the landscape protection area borders the cultural landscape complex Deifeld-Wissinghausen .

Area description

In the NSG there is a south-facing slope area with grassland and trees. In the woods there are rows of fruit trees, hedges and bushes. The grassland is partly poor pastures and wet grassland in the valley area. There are numerous endangered plant species in the NSG. The red- backed shrike breeds in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
