from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Itter-Quellen nature reserve with a size of 12.64  hectares is located north of Küstelberg in the urban area of Medebach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is located in the north directly on the state border with Hesse . In North Rhine-Westphalia it is surrounded by the Medebach landscape protection area. The NSG consists of two areas. The NSG is identical to the FFH area Itter-Quellen.

Area description

In the NSG there are two source areas of the Itter in the forest. The NSG is partially planted with red spruce . According to the landscape plan, the spruce areas are to be converted into deciduous forests.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect the source areas with species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
