Upper Dittelsbachtal nature reserve - Klokenbruch
The nature reserve Oberes Dittelsbachtal - Klokenbruch with a size of 13.9 ha is located northeast of Küstelberg in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is also part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (DE-4717-401). The NSG is divided into two parts by Landstrasse 872. To the west and east is the Dittelsbach in the nature reserve Medebacher Norden: Düdinghauser high troughs, valleys and slopes .
Area description
In the NSG there is part of the structurally rich stream of the Dittelsbach with bank breaks, spring swamps and grassland. The wet and poor grassland in the NSG is grazed with cattle. There are numerous endangered plant species in the NSG.
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the Bachtal with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
