Unkenbachtal nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Unkenbachtal nature reserve with a size of 5.05  hectares is located south of Dreislar in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . In the east the NSG goes up to the state border to Hessen .

Area description

In the NSG it concerns parts of the grassland valley of the Unkenbach with narrow strips of wet grassland along the stream and bushy wasteland on the valley slope. Various red list plant species occur in the fallow land.

According to the landscape plan, the NSG together with the valley areas of Lohgraben and Herzgraben to the south in the Lohgraben-Herzgraben nature reserve represent an important refuge and networking biotope in the cultural landscape south of Dreislar.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect a biotope complex with small-scale wet grassland and a warm, dry slope zone as a locally important refuge and networking biotope and habitat for endangered plant species and also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
