Katmecketal nature reserve
The Katmecketal nature reserve with a size of 30.19 hectares is located northeast of Düdinghausen in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . The NSG consists of two areas. Both sub-areas border Hesse in the east .
Area description
The NSG consists of two grassland areas in the Katmecketal with hedges . In part, there is poor grassland in the NSG. Parts of it have fallen fallow. On the Fuchshohl steep slope , a beech and oak forest is included in the NSG. Endangered plant species occur in the NSG. In the NSG breed rear breeders such as Red-backed Shrike . The Katmecke stream rises in the Judenloch area in the NSG. The largest area with panicle sedge in the Hochsauerlandkreis is located in the source area and at the stream trickle on the first plot of land in the stream .
Protection purpose
The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland and the forest area from its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
