The nature reserve Medebach-Frauenbruch with a size of 46.87  hectares is located southeast of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht and the FFH area Glindfeld-Orketal forest reserve (DE 4817-304). It is west of State  Road 740.

Area description

Parts of the Medebach Valley , the Frauenbruch and the Piezfeld are located in the NSG . The entire NSG is taken up by grassland. There are moist and wet grassland areas in the Frauenbruch and Piezfeld areas. The grassland is partly made up of oat meadows, Wiesenknopf-Silgenwiesen and marsh yolk meadows. Whinchat and meadow pipit breed in the NSG .

Protection purpose

The NSG was designated to protect the grassland. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. The main reason for protection is the maintenance and restoration of the biotope types and the protection of flora and fauna in the area. To ensure the coherence and implementation of the European Natura 2000 system of protected areas .

Protective measures

Parts of the Pitzfeld area belong to the NRW Foundation . The Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis (VNV) and the Biological Station Hochsauerlandkreis have carried out several protective measures in the area.
