Raunsberg nature reserve

The Raunsberg nature reserve with a size of 5.64  hectares is located north of Dreislar in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht .

Area description

The NSG consists of parts of the flat area of ​​the Raunsberg with dense hedges, bushes and broom populations characterized by a cultural landscape complex with extensive grassland areas of the type of dry oat meadows.

Endangered plant species occur in the NSG. In the nature reserve, a habitat complex, with its close integration of hedgerows and open land, more brooding Neuntöter -Brutpaare.

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to secure the diverse cultural landscape complex as a piece of the mosaic in securing the bird sanctuary "Medebacher Bucht". As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
