Sälbecke nature reserve to the left of Wissinghausen

The Sälbecke nature reserve with a size of 5.31  hectares is located west of Wissinghausen in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . It begins on the western outskirts of Wissinghausen. The NSG borders the Medebach landscape protection area in the north and the Medebach north landscape protection area in the west and northeast : Düdinghauser Hochmulde, valley areas and slopes .

Area description

The NSG is the Muldental of the Sälbecke stream with its grassland areas . The source area of the brook and areas with wet and humid grassland can be found in the valley floor. On the hillside there are poor pastures with bushes. There are numerous endangered plant species in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the valley with its grassland and its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
