from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Lohgraben-Herzgraben with a size of 12.39  hectares is located south of Dreislar in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . The NSG consists of two areas. In the east the NSG goes up to the state border to Hessen . In the south, the NSG extends to the city limits of Hallenberg .

Area description

The NSG consists of parts of the grassland valleys of the Lohgraben and Herzgraben streams with valley slopes at the edge. The NSG represents a diverse cultural landscape complex with stocks of broom on slopes exposed to the south, hedges along the edge of the valley and small areas of wet grassland and fallow land by the stream.

Endangered plant species occur in the NSG.

The landscape plan explains the NSG: "The protected area has a representative habitat structure, especially for several key species of the Medebacher Bucht bird protection area".

Protection purpose

The NSG is intended to protect a diverse cultural landscape complex with a habitat and species inventory that is significant and representative for the Medebacher Bucht bird sanctuary. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
