Kirchgrund nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kirchgrund nature reserve with a size of 5.35  hectares is located north of Dreislar in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht .

Area description

The NSG consists of parts of the Kirchgrund valley area with side areas. The NSG represents a diverse cultural landscape complex of broom bushes and moderately extensively used hay meadows, interspersed with individual shrubs and groups of trees. The marginal forest areas in the NSG are former coppice forests that have been grazed through. The nature reserve is characterized by the close intermeshing of open land, bushes and forest, typical of the historical cultural landscape.

Endangered plant species occur in the NSG. In the NSG breed rear breeders such as Red-backed Shrike .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
