Neue Born area

The nature reserve Neue Born - Upper Hilletal with a size of 17.61 ha is located near Küstelberg in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) in 1987 by the Arnsberg district government . The designation was renewed in 2003 with the landscape plan Medebach by the Hochsauerlandkreis . The NSG borders on the landscape protection area Kulturlandschaftskomplex Küstelberg in the north and east and on the landscape protection area Medebach in the south . In the east it goes to the city limits.

Geographical location

The two-part NSG is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park on the northwest edge of the Medebach district of Küstelberg and on average about 2.5 km southeast of the Winterberg district of Grönebach . The larger southeast part stretches northwest from Küstelberg downwards along an approximately 950 m long (nameless?) Small tributary from Hillebach and lies between 661 and 626 m above sea level. NHN ; it borders in the west on the NSG Hillebachtal and on the urban area of Winterberg. The much smaller north-western part, about 600 m away on average, is narrow and elongated immediately south and downwards along the Hillebach upper course and is 625 to 615 m above sea level; it borders to the north and west of the urban area of Winterberg and the NSG Hillebachtal. The NSG is almost entirely part of the FFH area Wiesen in the Springebach and Hillebach valleys near Niedersfeld (DE 4717-304).

Area description, protection purpose and protective measures

The entire NSG is taken up by grassland. Whinchat and meadow pipit breed in the NSG . It was designated to protect the grassland. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. The main reason for protection is the maintenance and restoration of the biotope types and the protection of flora and fauna in the area. To ensure the coherence and implementation of the European Natura 2000 system of protected areas . Parts of the areas in the NSG belong to the NRW Foundation .
