Rempel nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rempel nature reserve with a size of 5.51  hectares is located east of Deifeld in the city of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is also part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (DE-4717-401). The NSG is surrounded to the north and east by the nature reserve Medebacher Norden: Düdinghauser Hochmulde, valley areas and slopes .

Area description

In the NSG there is a south-facing slope area with poor pastures and bushes and in the valley area there is wet grassland and hay meadows. There are numerous endangered plant species in the NSG. The red- backed shrike breeds in the NSG.

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland with its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
