Ziegenberg nature reserve

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ziegenberg nature reserve with a size of 2.29  hectares is located southeast of Dreislar in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht . The NSG consists of two parts, the southern one extends in the east to the state border with Hesse .

Area description

The NSG consists of parts of the southeastern grassland slope of the Ziegenberg with heather relics and hedges. Endangered plant species occur in the NSG. In the NSG breed rear breeders such as Red-backed Shrike .

Protection purpose

The NSG is supposed to protect the grassland and its species inventory. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
