Wamecke nature reserve - Wilde Aar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The nature reserve Wamecke - Wilde Aar with a size of 66.35  hectares is located west of Titmaringhausen in the urban area of Medebach . It was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2003 with the Medebach landscape plan. The NSG is part of the European bird sanctuary Medebacher Bucht (DE-4717-401). The NSG borders Hesse in the west and the village in the east.

Area description

The NSG consists of valley areas of the Wamecke and the Wilder Aar with forest and grassland , whereby the Wamecke rises in the NSG and flows into the Wilder Aar in the local area east of the NSG. Lean and wet grassland can be found in the grassland. Endangered plant species occur in the NSG. In the NSG breed rear breeders such as Red-backed Shrike .

Protection purpose

The NSG serves to preserve intact, differentiated low mountain range valleys with close interlinking of montane forest and grassland habitats and to protect rare and endangered animal and plant species and biotopes. The NSG also serves to sustainably secure habitats that are particularly worthy of protection. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a nature reserve “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”.
