Parliamentary group Free flowing rivers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parliamentary Group Free Flowing Rivers , PG FfF is an association of parliamentarians who are committed to protecting the last remaining large German rivers and river landscapes from destruction through canalization and construction. The Lower Bavarian Danube between Straubing and Vilshofen with the mouth of the Isar , the Elbe , the Saale and the Oder in the area of the German-Polish floodplain national park Unteres Odertal are particularly endangered by river engineering measures.

development

In the 18th legislative period of the German Bundestag, 41 members of the parliamentary group are full members (CDU 15, CSU 1, SPD 13, Die Linke 3, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen 9). The board consists of Eva Bulling-Schröter (Die Linke) and Josef Göppel (CSU) together with the two chairmen Rita Hagl-Kehl (SPD) and Steffi Lemke (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen). In addition to the 41 full members, there are 44 representatives from non-governmental organizations , clubs and associations, as well as local and regional agencies who support the work of the group. At the general assembly of the group on January 26, 2016, the focus was on the three major German rivers with the highest ecological potential: Danube, Elbe and Oder. At the invitation of Rita Hagl-Kehl, Georg Kestel from the Bund Naturschutz Deggendorf eV reported on the Danube.

In the 17th legislative period, the group was headed by Anton Hofreiter (Bündnis90 / Greens).

In the 16th legislative period, 32 members of the Bundestag belonged to the group (CDU 1, SPD 15, FDP 3, Die Linke 4, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen 9). In addition to the members, there are over 90 registered clubs, associations and individuals who support the work of the group as guests. At the constituent meeting in July 2007, the founding members, Brunhilde Irber (SPD), Horst Meierhofer (FDP), Eva Bulling-Schröter (Die Linke) and Anton Hofreiter (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) were confirmed as equal members of the board. Brunhilde Irber was elected first chairwoman. After the state elections in Bavaria in 2008 , Josef Göppel (CSU) joined the parliamentary group as the only representative of the CDU / CSU faction and was accepted into the board. Since then, all parliamentary groups in the German Bundestag have been represented in the group . Each parliamentary group has one board member. The Free Flowing Rivers Parliamentary Group has its own advisor for the coordination and implementation of community projects.

aims

In a summary of the first 2 years of the group's activity, the outgoing chairwoman, Brundhilde Irber, formulated the goals in March 2009 as follows:

  • Protection of rivers from further damming, canalisation and construction
  • Protection of alluvial forests and river landscapes as well as their fauna and flora as a valuable contribution to the protection of biological diversity
  • Comprehensive ecological flood protection , which leaves room for natural river dynamics
  • Greatest possible patency for migratory fish species and aquatic animals and a responsible and careful use of fish stocks
  • Free and unobstructed access to rivers and gentle tourism and recreation
  • Promotion of river-adapted inland navigation
  • Sustainable and careful use of water as a resource
  • Healthy, livable environment and an intact home

Site inspections are organized so that the members of the Free Flowing Rivers parliamentary group can get an idea of the state of the rivers.
