Petra Rossner
Petra Rossner (born November 14, 1966 in Leipzig ) is a former German racing cyclist from 1987 to 2004. She is currently the trainer of the Columbia women's team .
Cycling career
Rossner began her career as a track and field athlete with a victory in the children and youth spartakiad in the GDR , but switched to cycling a short time later . It was not until she was 19 that she started competing. At the age of 20 she took part in the UCI Road World Championships in Austria in 1987 and finished 49th. In 1987 she also won the second stage race for women, today's International Thuringia Tour of Women .
At her first Olympic Games in 1988 she was still unsuccessful after she was eliminated because of a serious fall. Then came the successes in track cycling : World Cup silver in the 3000 m individual pursuit , 1991 world champion and 1992 Olympic champion in Barcelona .
For this victory she received the Silver Laurel Leaf on June 23, 1993.
Petra Rossner won a stage in the Tour de France for women and in the Giro d'Italia . In 1998 she also won the women's cycling world cup .
In 2004 she became German champion in the road race women / elite . This was the 25th German championship title that she achieved in her career and which was of particular importance because of the upcoming selection of the Olympic team. Despite this success, the Association of German Cyclists (BDR) did not nominate them for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .
Professional
In September 2004 Petra Rossner ended her sporting career and worked as the sporting director of the women's professional team Team Nürnberger . On June 26, 2005, she was the first woman to be awarded the Golden Nail for exceptional sporting achievements by the BDR . According to BDR President Rudolf Scharping , "the best German female cyclist of all time hung up her bike" and thus earned this symbolic award.
In 2010 she founded the "Petra Rossner Girls Team Saxony", a cycling team for girls between the ages of 12 and 16.
