The Pleißeflutbett is an artificial river course in Leipzig . It represents the last part of the course of the Pleiße . In terms of water law it is a water body of first order .

course

The Pleiße flood bed begins at the Connewitz weir , at whose upper water the Pleißemühlgraben branches off. From the weir it runs straight north to the so-called Leipziger Eck, where it flows into the Elster flood bed . The length of the Pleisse flood bed is about 600 meters. The river is about 18 meters wide. It is accompanied on both sides by an approximately 20-meter-wide meadow zone, which is diked and provided for in the event of a flood.

In its northern part, the Pleisseflood bed is spanned by the four-lane Beipert Bridge, over which the Schleußiger Weg road leads.

history

As early as the middle of the 19th century, a flood bed had been created for the Pleiße from the area of the Connewitz weir (former branch of the Rödel ) to the Elster at the current Palmengarten weir , but initially only in its northern part from about the southern end of the racecourse , where the Pleißemühlgraben branched off, was constantly water-bearing. The southern part, which roughly corresponds to today's Pleißeflood bed, was only intended for floods. Only with the construction of the Connewitz weir and the branching off of the Pleißemühlgraben at this point did the flood bed carry water over its entire length and was also called the Pleissem flood bed over its entire length.

It stayed that way until the dividing weir was built in Großzschocher and the Elster flood bed, which was previously only intended for the discharge of high water into the Pleiß flood bed, was now constantly carrying water. Because of the greater water flow in the Elster part, the name was also transferred to the northern part of the Pleißeflutbett, and the current name relationships were created.

Course 1

The Pleißeflutbett is part of the waterway connection from the city to the newly emerging lakes of the New Lakeland in the south. The main route, course 1, leads from the Leipzig city harbor on Elstermühlgraben to the Cospudener See . A lock was built at the southern end of the Pleißeflutbett to overcome the Connewitz weir to ensure that it was continuously navigable . This was officially released on July 11, 2011.
