The Pösgraben is a brook in the southeast of Leipzig . In its last section it is called Ochsengraben . In terms of water law, it is a second order body of water . Long stretches of it have been straightened through settlements or across farmland .

course

The Pösgraben arises in the northern part of the Oberholz from two source streams. He leaves the Oberholz through an underpass under the Leipzig – Geithain railway line . It runs through the Oberholz settlement, partly piped, partly in a newly built trench. Then it passes Großpösna and crosses under the A38 motorway at the Pösgraben car park . In doing so, he reached the Liebertwolkwitzer Flur and thus the urban area of Leipzig. In front of the Liebertwolkwitz landfill, he picks up the swing ditch coming from the left on Naunhofer Landstrasse . It now flows around the Holzhausener Colmberg in a wide arc . Shortly before reaching Kleinpösna , the Kleinpösna border ditch comes from the right . At the entrance to Kleinpösna, excess water can be diverted into the Zauchgraben via the branching Kleinpösnaer Umflutgraben by means of a gate . Now the Pösgraben runs through Kleinpösna and passes under the A14 motorway . From here it is called Ochsengraben . After about a kilometer, the Ochsengraben leaves the Leipzig city area and flows into the Threne after about 600 meters .

With the incorporation of Liebertwolkwitz, Holzhausen and Kleinpösna into Leipzig in 1999, the Pösgraben became a river of Leipzig. The length of the Pösgraben is 10.45 kilometers (+ 1.61 kilometers Ochsengraben). 6.55 kilometers of the Pösgraben run through the city of Leipzig.

Flood

Flood protection in front of Kleinpösna

The relatively large catchment area of the Pösgraben combined with the low gradient leads to a high risk of flooding after heavy rain or a sudden thaw on its lower reaches. Kleinpösna is particularly affected by this. Significant floods were recorded in the place in the years 1854, 1886, 1940, 1943, 1954, 1982 and 2002. To reduce the water flowing through the village, a gate was built at the entrance to the village to drain it into the flood ditch.
