The Neue Luppe (also called Luppe Canal ) is an artificial tributary of the White Elster in Saxony and a water body of the first order in terms of water law . It is the main arm of the Elster-Luppe river system up to its mouth and carries more water than the White Elster itself.
course
The Neue Luppe branches off from the Elster basin , a river basin created in the 1930s for flood protection, and flows in large arches almost parallel to the natural river bed of the White Elster. It flanks the Auensee to the south of the Wahren district and immediately afterwards takes the Nahle , another junction from the Elster basin. On their way through the Elster-Luppe-Aue, first the Bauerngraben at Lützschena-Stahmeln and then the Alte Luppe to the northeast of the Domholzschänke flow into the Neue Luppe. It then leaves the Leipzig city area and flows from here through the Schkeuditzer Flur. About two kilometers before its confluence with the White Elster near Rübsen , the Luppe branches off on the left from the Neue Luppe, but is no longer fed by it.
Original river system
During the construction of the New Luppe, numerous tributaries of the White Elster and the Luppe were interrupted, for example the dog water , the old Luppe and the Luppe itself. The latter still flows into the Saale at Schkopau today .
