The Zauchgraben is a brook that flows through the corridors of eastern parts of Leipzig . It is a left tributary of the Parthe . In terms of water law, it is a second order body of water .

course

The course of the Zauchgraben begins next to the Breiteweg that runs from Holzhausen to the east. After a bend to the southeast, it takes up the Holzhausener Mittelgraben coming from the right, and then turns to the northeast. Here it represents the border between the corridors of Holzhausen and Kleinpösna , further north, after taking up the Kleinpösna flood ditch, which is dry without flooding, that between Baalsdorf and Kleinpösna. After recording the poplar ditch coming from the left, the border is now called Baalsdorf / Hirschfeld . Then the ditch crosses under the Autobahn 14 and remains on Hirschfeld Flur until the Hirschfeld – Althen road. From here to its confluence with the Parthe it is the border between Althen and Zweenfurth , which is also the border of the city of Leipzig.

Surname

The unusual sounding name comes from a former wooded area west of Kleinpösna, the Zauche, through which the stream flowed. According to the German dictionary of the Brothers Grimm, this word is probably derived from the Slavic such = dry .

Flood protection

In the event of flooding, Kleinpösna is at great risk from the flood of the Pösgraben . For this reason, a flood barrier was built south of the village, which in the event of a flood, with the gate closed, diverts water via the otherwise dry Kleinpösnaer Umflutgraben into the Zauchgraben, which leads it to the Parthe.
