The 1939 season of the Primera División was the 36th season (the 8th of the professional era) of the Uruguayan top division in men's football , the Primera División .
The Primera División consisted of eleven clubs in the championship season of 1939, whose teams met twice in a total of 100 championship games. There were 20 game days. The championship was won by Nacional Montevideo . The "Bolsos" prevailed in the championship final against Club Atlético Peñarol , with whom they had to share the lead in the final table with equal points. A relegated team was not determined that season. Although the bottom of the table Bella Vista carried out a relegation against Club Atlético Progreso as champions of the Divisional Intermedia in 1939 . Progreso prevailed 2-1 in the first game. Bella Vista won the second game 2-0. In the third and decisive clash, Bella Vista kept the upper hand 3-0 and remained the first division. The top scorer was Atilio García with 22 goals .
