The 2018/19 season was the twelfth season of the German ProA basketball division . The ProA is the first season of the hierarchically structured 2nd basketball league . The points round of the season began on September 21, 2018 and ended on March 30, 2019. The champions were the Hamburg Towers , who prevailed in the finals against the Nürnberg Falcons BC . After the naming rights were granted to the insurance company Barmer , the league officially bears the name “Barmer 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProA”.
Game mode
16 teams are scheduled to take part in the league and play a round of points as a round-robin tournament in the "everyone against everyone" mode with a return game. The eight best-placed teams in the final table play two finalists in up to five matches in the championship round ("playoffs"), who thereby acquire the athletic right to participate in the basketball league (BBL), which they receive when a BBL license is granted Based on economic and infrastructural criteria, eligible for promotion to the Bundesliga. The finalists also play the champions of this league in the two legs. The two worst teams relegate to the lower season ProB of the second division.
conditions
- According to the league's announcement, “the team's athletic qualifications, proof of a national league license agreement valid for the 2018/2019 competitions and the granting of a license in accordance with the licensing statute” are prerequisites for exercising the right to participate in the game.
- The participating teams have to pay an amount of EUR 13,350 plus VAT to the 2nd Bundesliga. This includes, among other things, registration fees, costs for doping controls, costs of the next year's licensing procedure, DBB amateur compensation levy, costs for the training and further education of referees and the membership fee to the AG 2. Basketball Bundesliga.
- According to the license statute, the participating teams must play their home games in a hall with a spectator capacity of 1500 or more. The hall must have spectator stands on at least three sides of the playing field (standing stands are also permitted on the head ends), wooden parquet, a room for media representatives, a VIP area, and an electronic ticket system must be used.
Season Notes
- As relegated from the basketball league , the Tigers Tübingen came into the league; the second Bundesliga relegated, the Rockets , did not exercise the right to participate and gave it to the Artland Dragons (previously 2. Bundesliga ProB).
- Runner-up Rostock and semi-finalist FC Schalke 04 rose from the 2nd Bundesliga ProB, taking the place of title winner Elchingen , who decided not to go to the 2nd Bundesliga ProA.
- The Ehingen / Urspring syndicate ended the 2017/18 season in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA on a relegation rank , but remained in the league, as the RheinStars Cologne decided to withdraw to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and were therefore placed in the last place in the table , whereby Ehingen / Urspring moved to 14th place, which subsequently meant relegation.
