The Wolokolamski rajon ( Russian Волоколамский район ) is a raion in Moscow Oblast in Russia .

geography

The Rajon borders in the northeast on the Klinski rajon , in the east on the Rajons Istrinski and Russki , in the south on the Moshaiski rajon , in the west on the Schachowskoi rajon and in the northwest on the Lotoschinski rajon . The administrative center of the Raion is the city of Volokolamsk .

The climate is temperate continental. The main rivers of the Rajon are the Rusa and the Lama .

Population and administrative division

The district has 53,244 inhabitants, including 26,538 in cities (Volokolamsk and the urban-type Sytschowo , 2010). There are two urban and six rural communities in the Rajon with a total of 267 villages.

Volokolamsk Raion was established in 1929.

economy

The main industries of the Rajon are agriculture, building materials and textile industries.

traffic

The railway line from Moscow to Riga and the M9 Baltija trunk road (also European route 22 ) run through the Rajon . The transport within the Rajons is mainly caused by local bus ensured.
