    North German Cup

The competition was played between 1952 and 1974 and was used to determine the North German participants in the DFB Cup; accordingly - with the exception of the years 1953 and 1955 to 1960 - only so many rounds took place until all participants were determined for the first DFB Cup main round.
The way the competition was held changed frequently, which is why the number of participants, winners and rounds changed almost every year.

In the seasons 1953/1954, 1960/1961, 1963/1964, 1964/1965 and 1966/1967, Altona 93 made it into the main draw of the DFB Cup via this competition.

The Hamburg Cup has been organized by the Hamburg Football Association since 1951/52.
The mode of competition changed constantly. In the first few years the cup was held without a final, as several clubs could reach the North German Cup (which served as the "preliminary round" for the DFB Cup) and a final was not necessary to determine these clubs.
Since 1974, the winners of the respective HFV Cup events no longer qualify for the first round of the North German Cup, but directly for the DFB Cup.
Since 1981/82, every cup season has been played with a final, as the number of participants in the DFB Cup has been greatly reduced and only one Hamburg club has been admitted to the DFB Cup.

In eight finals, the AFC was able to win the cup four times (1984, 1985, 1989, 1994).
In addition, Altona 93 made it into the main draw of the DFB Cup twice (1974 and 1980) with this trophy.
