Schönberg is a municipality in the northwest of the Saxon district of Zwickau . She is a member of the Meerane-Schönberg administrative association .

Geographical location and traffic
Schönberg is located in the extreme north-western corner of the Zwickau district on the border with Thuringia, in a densely populated area on the northwestern edge of the Ore Mountains Basin . The city of Meerane is located 2 km west of the municipality. The A 4 running south can be reached via the Glauchau junction. The B 93 runs to the west of the municipality and the B 180 to the east .

Neighboring communities are the city of Meerane , Oberwiera and Remse in the district of Zwickau and the city of Gößnitz and Nobitz in the Thuringian district of Altenburger Land .

The community consists of the districts Schönberg, Köthel , Pfaffroda and Tettau . In addition, Oberdorf and Wünschendorf are located in the Tettau district and Breitenbach is in the Pfaffroda district .
history
The place Schönberg was mentioned in 1390 as "Schönberg". Regarding the political administration, Schönberg belonged to the Schönburg dominions . The town initially was a beautiful burg vassal court , the order in 1599 to the basic rule of the manor Mosel to and in 1820 the manor of beautiful burg Rittergut Hainichen in the duchy of Saxe-Altenburg belonged. In the 19th century Schönberg was under the Schönburg rule of Glauchau around 1816 and the Schönburg rule of Waldenburg around 1843 . Schönberg received a new church in 1836/37. A previous building was completely burned down by a lightning strike in 1592.
After an administrative reform was also carried out in the area of the Schönburg recession in 1878, Schönberg joined the newly established Glauchau administration in 1880 . As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , the community of Schönberg came to the Glauchau district in the Chemnitz district in 1952 (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued as the Saxon district of Glauchau from 1990 and in 1994 in the Chemnitzer Land district and in 2008 rose in the district of Zwickau.
