The nature reserve Schaafbachtal with side valleys and Stromberg lies in the area of ​​the municipality Blankenheim (Ahr) in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of eleven sub-areas, extends south of the core town of Blankenheim and the Blankenheim district of Nonnenbach . Not far to the east are the Blankenheim districts of Hüngersdorf and Ripsdorf . The B 258 runs along the eastern edge and flows the Ahr .

Since 2003, a 464.64 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Blankenheim under the identification number EU-058. The protection is given in particular because of the importance of a large part of the area for the establishment of a coherent ecological network of special protection areas in Europe.
