The nature reserve Westliches Ahrgebiet lies in the area of ​​the municipality Blankenheim (Ahr) in the district Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area extends southeast of the core town of Blankenheim and east of the Blankenheim district of Lommersdorf along the Aubache. The B 258 runs along the southern edge and flows the Ahr .

The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Ahrgebirge ".

Since 2007, a 513.34 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Blankenheim under the identification number EU-168. The protection is given because of the importance of a large part of the area for the establishment of a coherent ecological network of special protected areas in Europe.
