The nature reserve Prether Bachtal and tributaries lies in the area of ​​the municipality of Hellenthal in the district of Euskirchen in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The area, which consists of seven sub-areas, extends southwest of the core town of Hellenthal and north of the Hellenthal district of Udenbreth along the Prether Bach and its tributaries. Not far to the west is the B 265 and the border with Belgium . The state road L 17 runs east and the L 110 south.

Since 2005, a 204.92 hectare area has been designated as a nature reserve for Hellenthal under the identification number EU-014. The protection is placed in particular to preserve the habitat for many, according to the Red List of endangered plants, fungi and animals in North Rhine-Westphalia endangered, threatened and rare animal and plant species.
