Siegfried Rauch (actor)
Siegfried Rauch (born April 2, 1932 in Landsberg am Lech ; † March 11, 2018 in Untersöchering ) was a German actor . From the mid-1950s until his death, he worked in over 135 films and series and was best known for the television series Es muss nicht immer sein , The Happy Family , The Dream Ship and The Mountain Doctor .
Life
Rauch originally wanted to become an architect . But he began studying theater studies and later trained to be an actor. His film debut was in 1956 with a supporting role in the homeland film Die Geierwally ; In the following years he continued his career mainly on the theater stage.
After roles in theaters in Bremen , Munich , Berlin and Hamburg , Rauch was also increasingly seen in the cinema and television. One of his most successful cinema roles in 1970 was that of Captain Oskar Steiger in the biopic Patton - Rebel in Uniform , which won seven Oscars. In 1971 he played the racing driver Erich Stahler at Le Mans alongside Steve McQueen .
In 1977 he played the role of Thomas Lieven in the television series It doesn't always have to be caviar, based on the novel of the same name by Johannes Mario Simmel . In the 14-part Karl May television series Mein Freund Winnetou (1980) Rauch played the Old Shatterhand alongside Pierre Brice . This was followed by roles in the television series The Happy Family with Maria Schell and Wildbach . From 1999 to 2013 Rauch was the captain Jakob Paulsen in the ZDF series Das Traumschiff . From 2007 he played as Dr. Roman Melchinger played a major role in the ZDF series Der Bergdoktor . From 2017 he also played in the SAT.1 series Knallerkerle . Rauch worked as an actor until his death and appeared in over 135 films and series.
Several books by Rauch were also published, for example the books My Most Beautiful Christmas Stories and Captain's Dinner by Herder Verlag . The book Our Le Mans, Steve McQueen - The Film followed in 2016 . Friendship. The facts. Steve McQueen, with whom Rauch had been a close friend since filming Le Mans , became the godfather of his first son.
Rauch was also active as a singer; he gave up the activity in favor of acting. With the Martin Böttcher orchestra in 1979 he recorded the title Frei sein, like the man who lives in the mountains , a cover version of Thom Pace's title Maybe from the television series The Man in the Mountains , for which Stefan Waggershausen had written the German text. Other titles with him have appeared on LP and CD. In 2016 the swing CD Moonlight and Lovesongs came out.
Private
In 2016 he was appointed Ambassador for Bavarian Sea Shipping . In 2017 he was awarded the Bavarian Home Medal of the Free State of Bavaria and the "Kaiser Stern" of the Wilder Kaiser Tourist Association. Rauch was also an ambassador for the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) and was committed to the action Germany rounds up and the Dirk Nowitzki Foundation .
He was married to Karin Rauch since 1964, has two sons with her and most recently lived in a farmhouse in Untersöchering in Upper Bavaria . Siegfried Rauch died of heart failure on March 11, 2018 at the age of 85 ; he was buried at his place of residence.
