Sima is located about 220 km northwest of the regional capital Irkutsk on the Siberian Oka , near the confluence of the Sima river with the same name . In Sima, the Trans-Siberian Railway bridges the Oka at km 4943. In addition, Sima is up to the Russian highway M 53 , which is part of the transcontinental road link from Moscow to Vladivostok is.

history

Sima was founded in 1743 as a small village, the settlement only began to grow when it was connected to the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1898, and since the beginning of the 20th century Sima has been a center of the woodworking industry and a base for logging in the area. In 1922 Sima was granted city rights. Sima had an almost constant population of 40,000 between 1960 and 1990, but after the collapse of the Soviet Union it fell by 15% to below 35,000.
