The steeple of the first church from 1561 has kept its location in the current cemetery .
In 1888 the St. Severinus collecting society was founded in Karken. The architect Lambert von Fisenne from Gelsenkirchen took over the construction management . The new church was consecrated on September 19, 1901 . On January 27, 1945 the church was destroyed by the effects of the war. In 1951 the church could be rebuilt. In 1964 the tower was extended .
