The Stadler KISS is an electric double-decker - Multiple Unit of the Swiss manufacturer Stadler Rail . The trains are available as two- to eight-part train units (previously only built as three-, four- and six-part versions) for normal and broad gauge. KISS stands for "comfortable, innovative, high-speed S-Bahn train". The trains, which were developed and sold under the name “Stadler Dosto” from 2008 to 2010, have been delivered since 2011. Since then, 297 KISSs have been sold in 11 countries (as of December 2018).

The trains have been used by SBB for the Zurich S-Bahn since spring 2012 (see SBB RABe 511 ). There are also correspondingly modified variants on the Austrian Westbahn by the WESTbahn , in regional Berlin-Brandenburg by ODEG , on the Bern S-Bahn by BLS AG , in border traffic between Luxembourg and Trier (to Koblenz and Düsseldorf) by CFL and on the Mittelland line (from Braunschweig to Rheine and Bielefeld) by the Westfalenbahn . Version SBB

SBB RABe 511

On August 31, 2008, SBB ordered 50 double-decker multiple units from Stadler for the Zurich S-Bahn. This order formed the basis for the KISS product family.

The RABe 511 are called "Regio-Dosto" by the SBB and form the third generation of double-decker trains for the Zurich S-Bahn. On April 15, 2010, before the first train was delivered, SBB exercised an option for a further 24 multiple units of the same type. While the original order was for six-part multiple units, the subsequent order was for four-part units. After the first unit was delivered in March 2011, the first passenger trip was completed on September 5, 2011.

In June 2015, SBB announced that it would be purchasing a further 19 six-car trains for the Zurich S-Bahn. They are intended for the 4th partial expansion of the network. The first train was handed over to SBB in January 2016.

The RABe 511, which will be used in long-distance traffic in the future, will cost around CHF 20 million from 2019 to 2024. upgraded from Regio-Dosto (RVD) to Interregio-Dosto (IRD).

The Austrian Westbahn put seven units of a long-distance variant (adapted for 200 km / h, larger seat spacing) into operation on December 11, 2011. The six-car trains have a capacity of 501 seats and the maximum speed is 200 km / h. Since doors had loosened from their anchoring several times when trains met, the top speed was initially reduced to 160 km / h. The doors have now been revised and adapted to the increased maximum speed. The four intermediate cars are each equipped with a café area above a bogie, above the other bogie there are two toilets (male / female) each. The trolley 400 offers a large universal toilet for people with limited mobility. In the end cars there are seating groups with large tables.

In 2015, a six-car and nine four-car multiple units were also ordered, which went into operation in 2017 and can be coupled with the existing vehicles.

On July 21, 2019, it was announced that the Westbahn will sell all 17 trains in two tranches to DB Fernverkehr in order to replace them with 15 new acquisitions of the newer third generation of Stadler double-decker trains (KISS 3). The purchase agreement was signed on July 22, 2019. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Another potential buyer was ÖBB .

The first tranche comprises the nine newer, four-part KISS-2 units of the 4110 series from 2017. They have been in use on the new InterCity lines between Dresden - Berlin - Rostock and Vienna - Nuremberg - Berlin - Rostock since spring 2020 . You will initially have 271 2nd class seats and 31 1st class seats. The number of seats is to be reduced by adding luggage racks for large luggage from May 2020.

In mid-October 2019, DB Fernverkehr AG announced in the European Official Journal that it had commissioned Stadler to convert the four-car KISS 2 into six-car trains, along with further modernizations. The trains should be converted and approved for operation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland by March 2022 at the latest.

On February 5, 2020, the first multiple unit in the DB design was presented in Berlin Central Station. The maximum speed in Germany will initially be limited to 160 km / h, approval for 200 km / h is to take place in the second half of 2020.

Version BLS

In July 2018, BLS ordered eight more trains, in addition to three four-car trains, for the first time also six-car models. They are intended for the new IR lines Bern - Biel (from 2019) and Bern - Burgdorf - Olten, which BLS will operate from December 2020.

The KISS multiple units, which are manufactured by Stadler Pankow GmbH, differ from the original KISS model in that they comply with the G2 clearance profile so that they can be used without restriction on the DB Netz routes . The first train was completed in February 2012 and was u. a. on the way to test drives on the Velim railway test ring . In mid-February 2013, the Russian rail operator Aeroexpress signed a contract with Stadler for the delivery of 25 KISS trains, including 16 four-car and 9 six-car trains, for 350 million euros with an option for 13 more trains. In April 2017, MÁV-START and Stadler signed an eight-year framework agreement for the delivery of up to 40 six-part double-decker multiple units. These should be compatible with the existing flirt. In November 2018, the first completed car body from the Minsk plant was brought to Dunakeszi Járműjavító in Hungary, where the MÁV trains are being assembled. The bogies are supplied by Stadler's component plant in Szolnok.

On July 16, 2019, the rollout of the first train was celebrated in Dunakeszi, where the loaded press was able to inspect the first fully assembled unit. On July 20, 2019, the first two multiple units (815 001 and 815 002) left Hungary in the direction of VÚŽ Velim and the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center .
