history

Until the church is planted

The first owners of the village of Stubenberg were the Close , a branch of which there is evidence that it was named after Stubenberg in 1401. In 1512 the Close sold the closed Hofmark Stubenberg to the Baumgarten, who in 1560 also owned the Hofmark Prienbach. The place was part of the Electorate of Bavaria. From 1722 a Marian pilgrimage flourished temporarily in Stubenberg. The castle was destroyed in the War of the Austrian Succession in 1743 and completely demolished in 1800. Only a piece of the tower that was built into a farmhouse remained. The Stubenberg song books with sacred and secular chants were created around 1800 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Culture and sights

The medieval parish church of St. Georg and Urban from around 1470 was redesigned in Baroque style after the fire of 1743. The women's chapel was added as the north aisle. The baroque high altar was erected in 1978. It contains a Gothic figure of St. George. The side altars and the pulpit were built around 1770. The frescoes from 1773 are by Carl Johann Gasteiger.

In the women's chapel there is the miraculous image, a statue of the Virgin Mary with a child from around 1600. The pilgrimage, to which a book of miracles from the 18th century commemorates, has largely fallen asleep. Also worth seeing are the 16 red marble grave monuments from the 16th and 17th centuries.
