history
Telex was originally started as a fun project. First, she took Electro - cover versions of international hits on. She had first successes with her versions of the tracks Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley , Ça plane pour moi by Plastic Bertrand and Dance to the Music by Sly Stone . In 1979 she published her first own title Moskow Diskow, with which she also gained international fame. In 1980, on the advice of her manager, she took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , which was organized by the Walloon TV station RTBF under the title Éliminatoires belges du grand prix de la chanson . Telex was able to win the preliminary decision against the six other participating artists. Your contribution Euro-vision was the first contribution about the competition itself at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 in The Hague . Telex received 14 points for this (including the second highest score of ten points from Portugal ) and came 17th out of 19 participants.
After the Eurovision Song Contest, Telex left the rkm label, which was distributed in Germany by Hansa von Ariola in France by wea and Great Britain by Sire.
The band's new British record label, Virgin Records (in Belgium the band was under contract with Ariola at the time, in Germany with Teldec), was not satisfied with the result and therefore suggested a change of direction. The band should be established as part of the " New Wave " movement. As a result, the single "L'amour Toujours" was released somewhat hectically in 1982 in England. For the third album Sex (in Great Britain "Birds and Bees") the band Sparks helped write the lyrics. Virgin was only partially able to assert itself - some titles were only released on "Birds and Bees", but not on "Sex". At the time, Telex preferred not to perform live and to remain anonymous in the background. Only a few copies of the fourth album Wonderful World (distributed in Germany by WEA) have been released. The single "Peanuts" was released in 1987 in Germany by Polydor. In 1988 Telex switched to Atlantic Records for the non-Belgian market (in Belgium: Magnetic) and released the album Looney Tunes, which should not be a great commercial success. In 1989 the band released an album with remixed versions of previous house- style tracks .
Although the band never split, they didn't make any other releases until 2006. The first album in a long time, How Do You Dance from 2006, which contains five new songs plus five cover versions, was released on EMI and made it into the Belgian sales charts. Telex also produces remix versions for other bands, such as the songs A Pain That I'm Used To by Depeche Mode and Minimal by the Pet Shop Boys .
