Torgo ( Russian Торго ; Yakut Торҕо ) is an urban-type settlement in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Russia with no permanent residents (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 700 km as the crow flies southwest of the republic capital Yakutsk on the Oljokma-Tschara-Plateau , on the left bank of the Tokko tributary Torgo .

Torgo belongs to Ulus Oljokminski and is located about 220 km south of its administrative center Oljokminsk . The settlement is located on the territory of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Tjaninski nazionalny nasleg about 70 km south of its administrative seat, the village of Tjanja .

history

The settlement was founded in 1976 on the site of a geological exploration company and received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1977. Among other things, the company explored the occurrence of the rare jewelry mineral Charoite (Tscharoite) in the Murun massif, about 40 km to the west. With the drastic cut in state funding for geological exploration from the beginning of the 1990s, all permanent residents left the place by the end of the 2000s. Nevertheless, Torgo still has the status of an urban-type settlement (as of 2013).
