Artyk ( Russian А́ртык ; Yakut Аартык ) is an urban-type settlement in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Russia with 509 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is a good 800 km as the crow flies east-northeast of the republic capital Yakutsk on the right bank of the Indigirka tributary Nera , directly above the confluence of the Artyk tributary, which gives it its name.
Artyk belongs to Ulus Oimjakonski and is located about 100 km east-southeast of its administrative center Ust-Nera . The settlement is the seat of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Artyk, which also includes the village of Deljankir (formerly Dorozhny ), about 45 km southeast of the junction of the Nera source rivers Deljankir and Khujach directly on the border with Magadan Oblast .
The district of Deljankir is one of the coldest places in the northern hemisphere next to Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk , although not according to the absolute minimum temperature, but the long-term annual average temperature (1951–1989) at the weather station there was -16.8 ° C, still below that of Oymyakon.
history
The settlement was founded at the end of the 1930s in connection with the construction of the junction from the Kolymatrasse to Ust-Nera. Artyk has had urban-type settlement status since 1957.

Chandyga is on the R504 Kolyma trunk road , which connects Nizhny Bestjach near Jakutsk with Magadan (previously M56 , number still in use until 2017).
