Namzy ( Russian На́мцы ; Yakut Нам , Nam ) is a village (selo) in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in Russia with 8,890 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 80 km as the crow flies north of the republic capital Yakutsk on the southeast edge of the Central Yakut lowland , on the left flank of the Lena valley, about 5 km from the main arm of the river, which is up to 4 km wide.
Namzy is the administrative center of Ulus Namski . The village is the seat and only locality of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Lenski nasleg.
history
The village emerged as one of the oldest Yakut settlements at the latest at the beginning of the 17th century. Since 1930, Namzy has been the administrative seat of the Ulus ( Rajons ) named after him in its current form.
