Deputatski ( Russian Депута́тский ; Yakut Депутатскай ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Russia with 2983 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The place is about 930 km as the crow flies north-northeast of the republic capital Yakutsk in the southern part of the 1000 m high Nemkutschansky mountain range. The settlement extends in several districts for about 10 km along the Ojun-Unguochtach river, up to its confluence with the Irgitschjan , the right source river of the Indigirka tributary Ujandina .
Deputatski is the administrative center of Ulus Ust-Janski . The settlement is the seat and only locality of the municipality (gorodskoje posselenije) Possjolok Deputatski.
history
The settlement was founded in 1951 in connection with the development of a tin ore deposit (besides tungsten and gold ). Initially, there was a prison camp in the Gulag system . Deputatski has had urban-type settlement status since 1958. With the re-establishment of the Ust-Janski ulus ( Rajon ) in its current form - it had already existed from 1931 with a center in Kazachye - Deputatski became its administrative seat in 1967.
Due to the decline in mining in the 1990s, over three quarters of the population left the place. However, unlike many other previous mining centers in northeastern Russia, production continues to exist.
