Treble was a Dutch band from Limburg , which consisted of three female members: Caroline Hoffman (born November 17, 1975), Djem van Dijk (born July 2, 1987) and her sister Niña van Dijk (born May 26, 1985). Treble had a very unusual and unique style of music. They sang partly in English, but also in their so-called "Treble-taal" (German: "Treble language"). Many of their songs have a kind of African rhythm .
Band history
founding
In 1995, Caroline Hoffman met the two siblings Van Dijk, who at the time were still 10-year-old children. The parents of Niña and Djem wanted their two daughters to be brought up with good musical accompaniment, as they already had a lot to do with singing and dancing. In Caroline they saw the perfect teacher, who in the end also agreed. She taught the siblings how to handle music, what is in it and what you can get out of it. The trio got along very well straight away, and the idea of their own band came up quite early: Treble. They accompanied themselves with guitar and African percussion instruments such as the conga and the djembé . Since Niña and Djem did not yet master the English language, Caroline taught them a language that they had invented themselves: the so-called "Treble language".
Start time
In the years that followed, Caroline, Niña and Djem performed as treble at many celebrations, on holidays in Italy and Greece and on the streets. With the appearances on the street, the trio quickly knew how to attract attention. In 2002 Treble won the Sjengske, the award for Limburg's best young musical talent. As a result, Treble appeared in regional and national television programs and was after some time looked after by the A&R manager Ruud van Dulkenraad, from the record company CNR Records. For a full year Treble worked on songs for her debut album in a studio in Volendam . On September 29, 2003, Ramaganana was released, the group's first single, written by Treble and produced by Peter van Asten. The swinging hit was sung entirely in the "Treble language". Initially, the song did not do very well in the Dutch hit lists, but after an appearance on the talk show Barend & Van Dorp and 50 appearances in CD shops in the most famous shopping streets in the Netherlands, Ramaganana finally made it to number one on the hit lists.
Eurovision Song Contest
In 2006 Treble took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens as a Dutch contribution with the song Amambanda . As twentieth in the semifinals, the group could not qualify for the final.
resolution
The band broke up in March 2010. The three women had decided to start their own musical solo careers.
